SPLatco Knowledge Base

It is beyond the scope of this document to advise the user about the care of pH probes. However, it is very important to understand that the pH input on the SX10507 has a very sensitive and high input impedance and therefore the SX10507 should be mounted as far away as possible from electrical noise sources. This goes also for the pH probe wiring. Always run this wire by the shortest route and away from other wiring. Do not handle the board unnecessarily, especially around the BNC connector. Residue on the PCB will affect the pH readings.

The front end of the SX10507 (i.e. the circuitry that connects to the actual probe) is electrically isolated from the rest of the board. This means there is no direct wire connection from your SPLat controller to the probe. This isolation serves to reduce the likelihood of electrical noise or hum from upsetting the readings. If you are simply measuring the pH of a solution in a beaker on the lab bench, this will not make any difference. If you are measuring the pH of something in a real-world vessel, swimming pool or anything else that is not insulated from its surroundings, this will make a huge difference.
