The\u00a0mEQU<\/code>\u00a0directive is a special variant of the\u00a0EQU<\/a>\u00a0directive intended for defining\u00a0RAM<\/a>\u00a0(data memory) locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two forms of the mEQU<\/code> directive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Classic form”<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Counter:     mEQU    27<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
In this form the label Counter<\/code> is defined to have the numeric value 27, so any subsequent use of Counter<\/code> as an instruction argument will substitute the number 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Extended form”<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Counter:     mEQU    27,6<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
In this form there is a second optional argument, ‘6’. The label\u00a0Counter<\/code>\u00a0is defined to have the numeric value 27 and 6 bytes of RAM will be reserved (and hence not available for\u00a0automatic RAM allocation<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The “classic” form, i.e. with the optional second argument omitted, will reserve 4 bytes of RAM by default (corresponding to a floating point variable).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Using mEQU<\/code> is called manual RAM allocation<\/em>. You work out exactly where you want your RAM variables to be located. Note that it is perfectly legal to overlap the RAM addresses and blocks declared in mEQU<\/code> directives and SPLat\/PC will not raise any errors. However, you should do that only if you understand the ramifications of having several variables share the same RAM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As an aid to debugging\u00a0mEQU<\/code>\u00a0adds label information to the SPLat\/PC\u00a0Data Memory<\/a>\u00a0window. As you move the mouse across the memory locations the corresponding labels will appear in the title bar of the window, providing SPLat\/PC has scanned the program line (as will be the case during simulation or single stepping).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
