{"id":3237,"date":"2025-04-17T10:28:12","date_gmt":"2025-04-17T10:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/?post_type=spl_knowledgebase&#038;p=3237"},"modified":"2025-06-10T07:42:41","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T07:42:41","slug":"builder-the-basic-idea","status":"publish","type":"spl_knowledgebase","link":"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/knowledgebase\/splat-pc-programming-software\/splat-pc-builder\/builder-the-basic-idea\/","title":{"rendered":"Builder: The basic idea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A typical SPLat program will contain a number of different sections or segments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A header comment at the top that describes what the program is all about.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A section containing various program constants, such as time limits, maximum allowable temperature, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A section containing input and output assignments using\u00a0<code><a href=\"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/knowledgebase\/programming-reference\/directives\/iequ-directive\/\">iEQU<\/a><\/code>\u00a0and\u00a0<code><a href=\"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/knowledgebase\/programming-reference\/directives\/oequ-directive\/\">oEQU<\/a><\/code>\u00a0directives..<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any\u00a0<code><a href=\"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/knowledgebase\/programming-reference\/directives\/mequ-directive\/\">mEQU<\/a><\/code>\u00a0type absolute memory allocations (which must be before any\u00a0<code><a href=\"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/knowledgebase\/programming-reference\/directives\/defbyte-directive\/\">defBYTE<\/a><\/code>,\u00a0<code><a href=\"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/knowledgebase\/programming-reference\/directives\/deffloat-directive\/\">defFLOAT<\/a><\/code>\u00a0etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Program initialization code, for example a string of\u00a0<code><a href=\"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/knowledgebase\/programming-reference\/instructions-arranged-by-function\/multitrack-instructions\/launchtask-lllljj-d16\/\">LaunchTask<\/a><\/code>\u00a0instructions followed by a single\u00a0<code><a href=\"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/knowledgebase\/programming-reference\/instructions-arranged-by-function\/multitrack-instructions\/runtasksforever-d16\/\">RunTasksForever<\/a><\/code>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The main body of the program. If you are a structured programmer this will consist of a number of function blocks, each handling its own well-defined area of the overall functionality (for example&nbsp;<code>PumpDrive<\/code>,&nbsp;<code>Menu<\/code>,&nbsp;<code>HeaterControl<\/code>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A final section containing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/knowledgebase\/glossary-of-terms\/#o2970\">NVEM<\/a>\u00a0page 0 tables and\/or data after a\u00a0<code><a href=\"https:\/\/webprojects.cloud\/wordpress\/splatco\/knowledgebase\/programming-reference\/instructions-arranged-by-function\/non-volatile-memory\/nvem0-directive-d15\/\">NVEM0<\/a><\/code>\u00a0directive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, the thing about all these sections (in Builder-speak we call them&nbsp;<em>segments<\/em>) is that they need to appear more or less in the order listed above. Certainly,&nbsp;<code>mEQU<\/code>&nbsp;<em>must&nbsp;<\/em>come before any&nbsp;<code>defXXX<\/code>, and&nbsp;<code>NVEM0<\/code>&nbsp;<em>must&nbsp;<\/em>come at the end, after all executable code. Within each source file you have named segments.
